BAIDOA (AGGM)—Two members from Somali based group Al Shabaab laid down their arms to government forces in Qansahdhere town in southwest of Somalia.

Qansaxdhere district commissioner, Aden Abdi Qoqane said that the militants had prior communications with Somali forces in the town before laying down the arms.

“Two of Al Shabaab militants surrendered to our administration and we welcomed them warmly”, he said.

Aden says the South-West State administration is committed to welcoming any member of Al-Shabaab militant who denounces terror activities.

He says these men would be transferred to Baidoa town, some 250Km southwest of Somali capital Mogadishu.

There was no immediate response from Al Shabaab over the latest defection.
