MOGADISHU, Somalia— Somalia’s information minister Dahir Mohamud Geulleh has on Wednesday announced his resignation over escalating political tension.

Gelle’s resignation comes after escalating a political spat between him and country’s Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire.

There has been a dispute between PM Khare and Guelleh which has led Guelleh’s resignation, a reliable source told Mareeg Online.

He says Guelleh had strongly opposed PM Khaire’s policy, while the two sides disagreed over foreign relations and the ongoing rift between Mogadishu and country’s state members.

Guelleh is described as ‘a high-profile and talented politician, who resigned over political turmoil.

Guelleh was appointed by Khayre in 2018 after cabinet reshuffle.

Somali government has yet to confirm Guelleh’s decision.

However, Somali PM is also facing huge pressure from political oppositions as the opposition parties reportedly filed separate complaint letters against Khaire to the country’s leadership Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed.

KNN a radio based in Mogadishu has aired that President Mohamed had accepted to remove his premier Hassan Ali Khaire.

But, the claims were denied by Somali President’s spokesman Abdinur Mohamed.

Somalia has had no effective government since a coup removed Siad Barre from power in 1991, leading to an almost total breakdown in law and order.
