MOGADISHU, Somalia –Mayor of Mogadishu Abdirahman Omar Osman (Eng Yarisow) has declared security operations to control the overall security of Somali capital Mogadishu.
The operation was announced after 36 people were killed and dozens injured in a week attacks claimed by al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab in Mogadishu.
Mr. Yarisow says the operations were aimed to restrain security risks in the capital after a press conference held at his office in Mogadishu.
He has called on residents to cooperate closely with security forces to curb attacks planning by Al Shabaab.
“I call on Mogadishu residents to work with security agencies, which are committed to strengthen and the security of the capital of Mogadishu”, he said.
“To realize this motive, the security forces have started security operations that aim at boosting the security of the city” he added.
Yarisow says Mogadishu residents could know to restrain the public transport sector, amid roads blockade as the operations started.
He stated security forces would search all neighborhoods and vehicles to target the terrorist affiliates, whose evil activities remain detrimental to the Somali citizens.
While commenting on security challenges, he has presented a plan for Mogadishu that aim to facilitate the public transport in the city during the ongoing security operations.
He also said a public transport initiative was put in place to those vulnerable members of the community who could not use on foot for longer distance.
Mayor of Mogadishu has, however, pointed out that his administration would brief on social Media and public at large on the feedback of the ongoing security operations.
Somali capital, Mogadishu has seen a deadly one week with sustained attack by Al Shabaab, leaving 36 people, mostly civilians dead.
Al-Shabab, which is al-Qaida’s East Africa affiliate, has been waging insurgency for more than years in Somalia. The group was ousted out of Mogadishu in 2011.
The group also wants to impose a strict version of Islam in the Horn of Africa nation.
The al Qaeda linked group lost territory in recent years to Somali army forces and African Union forces, after joint military operations.
