MOGADISHU, Somalia – Death toll from twin suicide bomb and gun attack in Somali capital, Mogadishu has climbed to at least 15 people, with 15 others injured, some seriously.
The attack started with a car bomb detonated front gate of Ministry of Labour compound and then four gunmen stormed into the building, police officer Hussein Mohamed said.
Mohamed says the attackers started randomly shooting.
He says 15 people, mostly civilians were killed in the attack, while 15 others also left wounded.
Somali Security forces have managed to have shot dead all 4 attackers, who masqueraded as members of Somali police forces.
The Somali-based group Al Shabaab has claimed the responsibility for Saturday’s explosion.
Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed has strongly condemned dreadful attack on the Ministry of Labour in Mogadishu.
Mohamed sent his heartfelt condolences to families, who lost their loved ones the attack claimed by Al Shabaab.
In the aftermath of Saturday’s attack, Somali Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire has held an urgent meeting with government, African Union mission known as AMISOM commanders in Mogadishu.
The meeting was also attended by the Ambassadors of US, UK, EU and other diplomats, discussing on strategies on countering Al-Shabaab threats.
The Al Qaeda linked group has been fighting to topple the weak-western backed government based in Mogadishu for more than ten years in Somalia.
