Deadly strike hits Al Shabaab, scores killed

MOGADISHU, Somalia – A suspected U.S. drone has carried out an air strike targeting Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab in Somalia.

The strike was carried out near Buzer area in west of Somalia, where the militants’ group have base,  leaving scores dead, according regional official, who asked to be anonymous.

He says the air raid destroyed the group’s base in the area.

It is unclear who exactly carried out the bombing.

The U.S. military has intensified its air strikes targeting rebel-held towns in Somalia.

Last week,  U.S. says it killed 26 fighters with the al-Shabab extremist group with an airstrike in central Somalia, after a pair of strikes earlier week killed 55.

The U.S. has carried out 24 strikes this year.
