British inmate injured in Somalia attack

MOGADISHU, Somalia – A British man, who was detained for endangering public safety, has been attacked in at central jail in Somali capital Mogadishu.

Anthony Thomas Cox suffered minor injuries to the neck, after he was attacked by two militant inmates carrying razor blades, according to security sources.

It remains unclear who was behind the attack on Anthony Thomas Cox.

There was no immediate comment from Somalia over the claims.

Last week, Thomas Cox was arrested after Somali authorities say suspicious items believed to be tear gas canisters was found in his luggage at Mogadishu airport.

Thomas Cox was handed over to the Security Agency for questioning according to sources.

The British citizen was trying to travel out of the country and heading to Addis Ababa via Ethiopian airlines. He has been working for a foreign private company in Mogadishu.
