Somali Islamist group of Al Shabaab launched mortar attack on airport in Barawe town, some 120km south of Somali capital Mogadishu.
The group says its fighters carried out mortar attack at the airport, shortly after a helicopter landed, killing one person.
The Al Qaeda inspired group in Somalia did not say if the attack damaged the military helicopter landed at the airport in the town.
Barawe, a coastal town runs by Somali army forces, along with African Union mission in Somalia known as AMISOM troops.
It remains unknown what the helicopter was carrying, but Somalia and African Union forces based in town.
Neither Somalia military officials nor African Union mission has commented on the latest mortar rockets in Barawe town.
Earlier this month, the group’s fighters fired several mortar rounds at a ship docked Barawe searport, causing untold number of casualties.
The Al-Shabab has been waging an insurgency in Somalia for more than 10 years.
A 22,000-strong African Union force is in the country to help the government fight the al-Qaeda-linked militants.
The group has been driven out of many urban areas since 2011, however it still controls territory in rural areas and carries out gun attacks and bombings on military and civilian targets.
