ANKARA, Turkey— Somalia and Turkey have signed a memorandum of understanding on Wednesday in the capital, Ankara.
The agreement which was aimed at enhancing cooperation and partnership was jointly signed by Somali Minister of Foreign Affairs Amb. Ahmed Isse Awad and his Turkish counterpart Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu .
Mr Awad and Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu holding bilateral talks agreed close cooperation and partnership between the two foreign ministries, said in a statement released by the government – bases in Mogadishu.
The two sides also discussed ways of enhancing them to serve common interests in many fields.
Somali FM Awad says the memorandum of understanding between Mogadishu and Ankara provides for cooperation in diplomatic training and exchange of information and documentation between Somalia and Turkey.
The bilateral relations between both countries increased dramatically after Turkish President Erdoğan visited to the Somali capital, Mogadishu in 2011.
Mr Erdoğan brought a sense of brotherhood and hope, according to diplomats.
Ankara has sent almost $1 billion in aid to Somalia since 2011 when Somalia was hit by severe droughts.
Turkey has also the largest military training camp in the capital, Mogadishu where Turkish military trainers provide militray trainings to Somali army soldiers battling against an al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab.
