US strike hits children, 1 dead in Somalia

MOGADISHU, Somalia – The U.S. military drone strike targeting al Shabaab has killed a little girl and wounded three others in Jilib town, 380km south of the Somali capital, Mogadishu.

Somali journalist, Mohamed Osman, victims’ relative said the strike was conducted on Sunday in the town, leaving a girl dead while two others and their grandmother also wounded.

Osman says the US military missile had killed his bother-in-law’s daughter and injured two of his daughters and his mother in the town.

“Very sad to learn that an airstrike on Sunday evening killed my brother-in-law’s daughter, and injured two of his daughters and his mother who is also my aunt and my mother-in-law in Jilib town, 380 KM south of Mogadishu”, he said.

But, the US military said it has targeted Al Shabaab militants, killing one terrorist in the bombing, according to a statement released by the US Africom command.

There was no immediate comment from the US military over the allegation.

Osman seeks an answer after his close relatives are now the victims of American airstrike in Somalia.
