MOGADISHU, Somalia — More floods have devastated communities on Wednesday in Afgoye town, some 30km south of the Somali capital, Mogadishu after the Shabelle river has again burst its banks, leaving dozens homeless.
Somalia’s regional governor of Lower Shabelle, Ibrahim Aden Ali Najah says the Shabelle river could likely cause more havoc and hamper in towns of his region.
He says his adminstration provided support to dozens of families whose houses washed away by the floods.
The more flooding comes after areas already battered by floodwater are on high alert for another rainy days as parts of the country hosted heavy rains.
Flood warnings still remain in place while the flooding caused by heavy rains already affected over 370, 000 people, including — children are displaced from their homes in Somalia.
Last month, 17 people, including — two children were killed in recent floods in Somalia.
In response to the mass floods, the Somalia and UN humanitarian agencies
called for US$72,5 million to help the flood-hit victims in south and central regions of the war-revaged nation.
However, the recent flooding followes by Heavy seasonal rains destroyed farmland and infrastructure and devastated livelihoods in Somalia.
