MOGADISHU, Somalia – The US military says it has killed an al Shabaab fighter in a drone strike carried out near Jilib in Middle Juba region of Somalia.
The U.S. Africa Command, Air Force Brig. Gen. Robert A. Huston, deputy director of operations said the strike was executed in coordination with the government of Somalia.
Huston says a militant was killed in the bombing.
“Airstrikes like these are conducted to degrade al-Shabaab’s activities in the region that disrupt the safety and security of the Somali people,” he said.
He added no civilians were injured or killed as a result of this airstrike.
The U.S. says its forces would continue to work with its partners to transfer the responsibility for long-term security in Somalia from AMISOM to the Federal Government of Somalia.
