MOGADISHU, Somalia – A fierce fighting broke out between Somali army forces and other armed troops loyal to a wanted security Minister of Jubaland, Abdirashid Janan in Balad-Hawo town near the border of Kenya.
The battle flared up on Monday in Bulo Amin and Point One area near the border, after the army forces launched an attack on Janan’s troops, causing untold casualties, a witness said.
He says heavy weaponries could be heard through the town.
Both sides reportedly used heavy and light weapons .
Janan has been on the run since last month after he escaped from detention cell in the capital, Mogadishu.
Somalia previously urged Kenya to handover Janan, who is wanted for “serious crimes”.
