MOGADISHU – Somali military forces have killed at least two militants in an operation against al Shabaab near Balcad town, some 30km north of the capital, Mogadishu.
The operation was aimed at targeting al Shabaab’s taxes collection hub near the town, said a military official, who asked to be anonymous.
He says two militants were killed during the operation.
We have killed two militants and confiscated their weapons”, he said.
There was no immediate comment from Al Shabaab over the claims.
Al Shabaab, an al Qaeda linked group has been battling against the weak-western backed government-based in the capital, Mogadishu.
