MOGADISHU, Somalia – Somali president Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed has fired country’s Deputy Chief of the army Brigadier Gen Mohamed Ali Barise just 5 months after he promoted and appointed him to the position.
Barise’s removal comes after 24 soldiers were killed in an attack on El Salini military base, about 30km south west of the capital, Mogadishu.
In a statement, Brigadier General Barise says he resigned on February 18 citing “politician interference in the army”, that is a day before the Al-Shabaab attack on El-Salini military base.
But, President Mohamed announced he sacked Barise on Thursday.
