16 Al-Shabab activists killed in Somalia

A military official in Somalia said that the security forces in the country have killed 16 Al-Shabab activists and left 20 others wounded in a clash that took place in Shabelle region on Friday night.

The activists attacked a base that is used by Somali forces in the Haji Ali area, but the security forces retaliated and succeeded in killing some opposing fighters, according to Ahmed Mohamed Mohamud, commander of unit 27 of the Somali National Army (SNA).

The commander confirmed that the army succeeded in killing 16 activists and wounding 20 others.

He said that “Our army is now pursuing the remnants who ran to the forest”, adding that four government troops died in the clash.
