Somalia has launched a consultation regarding spectrum, numbering and interconnection policies in plans to harmonise use of telecom services. Abdiaziz Isaq, director-general of the Ministry of Post, Telecommunications and Technology said the draft policies are aimed at regulating the use of spectrum and numbering resources and policy for interconnecting telecom operators.

Isaq said the three policies are linked to the National ICT Policy and Strategy for 2019-2024 that creates legal and policy frameworks to develop and attract more investment to the ICT sector. He said these policies would inform the ministry’s engagement with the sector through the regulator.

Interested parties should submit their comments in writing to a designated email address by 10 January 2020. He noted that these draft policies are part of the ministry’s efforts to implement the law, National ICT Policy and strategy, and milestones in the economic roadmap of the government.
