Localized rainfall coupled with heavy rains in the Ethiopian highlands led to increasing water levels in the Shabelle and Juba rivers in southern Somalia, causing widespread flooding in low-lying riverine communities.
An estimated 540,000 people have neen affected, of whom 370,000 have been displaced from their homes.
