A family in Bondo, Siaya County, is seeking justice following the murder of their son who had been working in a hotel in Somalia.

According to the deceased’s father Pius Ogweyo, 41-year-old Cosmas Owuor Ogweyo who was working as a hotelier was shot dead by a security guard on Monday night.

He said that according to the younger brother of the deceased, a scuffle ensued after a small disagreement between the two, which resulted in Cosmas being shot.

The deceased who hails from Abwao village was then rushed to hospital by his colleagues but did not make it as he was pronounced dead on arrival.

“We were told the gunshot attracted Cosmas’ colleagues who picked him and rushed him to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival,” he told the Standard.

Mr Ogweyo is complaining of not receiving any information from both the Kenyan embassy and his son’s employer.

He says that this is despite colleagues of the deceased and the hotel reporting the incident to the Kenyan embassy.

Owuor’s widow Juliana Kimori is also accusing the Nairobi-based recruitment agency that helped the deceased land the job of switching off the phone and refusing to help.

Mr Ogweyo has further called upon the State to help in ferrying the body of his son back to the country for burial.

“We are appealing to the government to help us bring the body of our son home for burial,” he added.
