Turkey slams Somalia blasts

MOGADISHU The death toll from double suicide explosions in the Somali capital, Mogadishu, has climbed to 11 people, with 30 others injured, some seriously, according to medical officials.

Medical officials said 11 people were killed and 30 others injured in two car bomb explosions on Saturday in Mogadishu.

Turkey slammed deadly suicide explosions claimed by al Shabaab, which killed at least 11 people.

In a statement by Turkish Foreign Ministry said Ankara expressed a feeling of deep sorrow over the terrorist attack in Mogadishu.

“We strongly condemn this heinous attack”, Turkish FM said.

Ministry also wished Allah’s mercy upon those who lost their lives, and a speedy recovery to the wounded.

Ankara has shared its condolences to the brotherly people and government of Somalia.

Somali armed group al Shabaab carried out two explosions.

The first explosion hit a security checkpoint near the parliament compound, leaving 11 dead while the second blast went off on the main road leading to the airport.

Somali PM Hassan Ali Khaire, who visited Mogadishu attack scenes, urged security forces to increase securing the overall security of Somali capital.

He also hailed the security forces’ efforts to intercept driver of a car bomb which detonated on a main road leading to the airport while ongoing interrogations.

Al Shabaab, an al Qaeda linked group, which wants to topple the weak-western backed government of Somalia.

The group was driven out of Mogadishu in 2011, but it still holds large swaths in south and central Somalia.

The rebel group also carried out a deadly attack in a neighboring country – Kenya where it killed 11 Kenyan soldiers on Saturday.
