Somali military vehicle hit by explosion in Wanlaweyn town

MOGADISHU, Somalia – A roadside bomb explosion has ripped through a Somali military vehicle near Wanlaweyn town, some 9km northwest of Somali capital, Mogadishu.

The explosion targeted a military water-tank while heading to Balidogle air base, where US military train Somali special forces fighting against al Shabaab.

Somali armed group al Shabaab claimed the responsibility for Sunday’s explosion.

The group says it had destroyed a water tank in the explosion.

The al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab has been fighting against the weak-western backed government of Somalia for more than ten years
