MOGADISHU– Somali residents in Sabid town have started renovation and reconstruction of homes which were purportedly blown up by Al Shabaab last month.
Sabid, a town, which lies about 40km south of Mogadishu was re-captured by Somali army forces after heavy fighting with al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab.
The group was accused of detonating a car bomb which destroyed houses covering an area of 400 square meters ahead of its withdrawal from the town.
Gen. Odowaa, a military boss says the army took control of the town, but, he accused Al Shabaab of destroying several villages in the last ditch attempt.
The government troops also took their charm offensive to residents in Mordinle village near Sabiid town.
UK mission in Somalia has welcomed the latest renovation and reconstruction of homes damaged by al Shabaab.
The mission says UK’s Early Recovery Initiatives is working with Somali government to provide emergency shelter to people in Sabiid.
There was no immediate comment from Al Shabaab over the allegation.
