Somali police soldier shot dead in Mogadishu

MOGADISHU – A Somali police soldier has been shot and killed by suspected al Shabaab gunmen in Somali capital Mogadishu.

The victim, whose name has not been released yet, was gunned down by young men armed with pistols in Argentin area of Mogadishu, a witness said.

He says the victim was killed aboard while he was on his way to home from police station.

The killers escaped from the crime scene.

Somali police soldiers arrived at the area and took the dead boy into criminal investigation department for further investigations.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the assassination.

The attack comes a day after Turkish national was killed after bomb explosive fitted into his car exploded in Mogadishu.

The bomb attack was claimed by Al Shabaab through its website.

Turkey’s embassy in Mogadishu is closely following the process, according to Demirören News Agency.

The al-Shabaab has been fighting Somali army and African Union peacekeeping troops for over a decade.

The al-Qaida-linked group was driven out of Mogadishu in 2011, but still controls large swathes of remote areas in the south and center of the country.
