Somali forces foil bomb attack in Bardhere town

MOGADISHU, Somalia – Somali army forces have foiled an orchestrated bomb attack in Bardhere town, after an operation.

Captain Ahmed Garab, a security chief in Jubaland says the army forces had successfully removed an improvised explosive device allegedly planted by al Qaeda linked Al Shabab.

He says Al Shabaab group concealed an IED at public gathering, in a bid to maim civilians in the town.

“We removed the planted explosives after a tip off”, he said.

Cap. Garab urged local residents to work with security agencies to thwart further attempts attacks by Al Shabaab.

He also said the security forces launched an operation to hunt down Al Shabaab members in the town.

Garab added such operations would continue until the group’s militants are eradicated.

Al Shabaab, an al Qaeda affiliated group which wants to topple the weak-western backed government of Somalia.

The group has been fighting for more than ten years in Somalia.
