Mayor of Mogadishu says the killers of Bajaj drivers will be held accountable

Mr. Abdirahman Omar Osman (Eng.Yarisow), Mayor of Mogadishu and governor of Banadir Regional Administration has, while condoling with the families of those two civilians killed in the shooting by the Security Forces in Mogadishu, said that the public transport sector operating in Mogadishu remains critical to the survival of those residing in Mogadishu, as well as the youth and the less privileged community members, who generate their income from that sector, to secure their daily bread, adding that any excuse that aims to subject them into harm can no longer be tolerated, while, at same time, asking them to cooperate with security agents.

The mayor together with the Commander of the Police Forces, Brigadier Bashir Abdi Mohamed have, while addressing the youthful protesters at Bakara intersection, reiterated that they are anticipating a swift response from the Police Headquarters,adding that they are required to grip any one harming the citizens firmly.

The mayor has also called on the protesters to stabilize the tension, so as to allow the Somali Police Forces to take further steps in response to the recent incident. The Commander of the forces who carried out the shooting was also taken into custody following the deadly incident.

“You are required to cooperate with security forces. Without security, Bajaj cannot operate. As an administration, we are committed to holding anyone who perpetrates against you accountable for his actions, as well as safeguarding yours rights.”

On the other hand, the mayor and the commander of the Police Forces have visited the families of the two civilians killed in the shooting and promised them to take the killer to justice.
