Islamic State deputy leader ‘killed in air strike’ in Somalia

MOGADISHU, Somalia – The deputy leader of terror group Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL or ISIS) has been killed in an air strike in Somalia.

The strike was carried out by a suspected US drone in the east of Puntland region of Somalia, a witness said.

He says there has been an airstrike on Sunday which targeted a vehicle with two Islamic State occupants.

Somali regional intelligence said two Islamic State militants, including its deputy leader Abdihakim Dhoqob were killed in the strike.

It says Dhoqob and his guard died in the strike after a vehicle they were traveling in was hit by drone strike earlier on Sunday in the east of Puntland region of Somalia.

There was no immediate comment from Islamic Sate over the strike.

It remains unclear who carried out the latest strike.

Last year, US military said it carried out first strike targeting Islamic State militants near Qandala town in north of Somalia.
