MOGADISHU, Somalia— Somali army forces have on Tuesday recaptured Balcad town, some 30km northeast of Somali capital Mogadishu.

The seizure comes after Al-Shabaab militants pulled back from areas of the town where the militants entered last night.

Somali government troops have taken control of the town, while African Union mission known as AMISOM is holding its military base just outside the town.

A local resident said drones were hovering over the town.

He says government troops are making progress in launching counter-offensive against Al-Shabaab militants who entered the town earlier.

The troops crossed the bridge and are in town but some Al Shabaab militants are still suspected to be hiding in parts of the town.
