Somali PM says Al-Shabaab continues to pose threat

MOGADISHU, Somalia – Somali Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire has warned that Al-Shabaab continues to pose a threat to peace in Somalia.

Khaire says his government has been registering progress in institutional building, while continue fighting against al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab.

“We still continue fighting against Al Shabaab. We are also reforming our soldiers, in a bid to restore peace and stability to Somalia”, he said.

He called for enhanced efforts to fight Al-Shabaab, which continues to launch deadly attacks across Somalia.

Al-Shabab was pushed out of the Somali capital, Mogadishu, in recent years but continues to control rural areas in the south and central regions.

The al-Qaeda-linked group has been carrying our bomb and gun attacks for more than a decade.
