MOGADISHU, Somalia – Two bomb explosions have targeted an African Union troops on board in Bardhere town in Somalia’s Gedo region.
The two remotely-controlled bomb blasts reportedly hit Ethiopian troops under African Union mission known as AMISOM while on patrol in the town, a witness said.
He says an Africa Union armored personnel carrier was destroyed in one of two bomb explosion.
He said the African Union forces responded heavy bursts of gunfire with the bomb attack, causing untold facilities.
It remains unclear how many African Union soldiers were killed in the latest attack in west of Somalia.
Somali based group Al Shabaab has claimed the responsibility for Wednesday’s explosions.
The group claimed to have inflicted heavy loses upon Ethiopian soldiers on board.
Baardheere is an important agricultural city in the Gedo region of Somalia.
It is the second most populous town in the Juba Valley.
The al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab was driven out of Mogadishu in 2011 by African Union troops and Somali army forces after joint military operations.
The group still hold large swaths in south and central Somalia where believed to launch attacks on African Union troops an Somali army forces’ bases
