The President of Somalia, Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed has held talks with his Burundi’s counterpart, Pierre Nkurunziza in Bujambura capital.
Mohamed’s visit comes at a time when Burundi has been asked to withdraw up to 1,000 of its troops from Middle Shabelle region of Somalia.
Burundi is one of the African nations that contribute troops to the United Nations and African Union funded peacekeeping mission in Somalia.
President Mohamed says he and Nkurunziza had held bilateral talks focused on ‘strengthening cooperation on security and expanding trade and economic partnerships’.
The Burundi troops operating under AMISOM have their main base in Jowhar town, some 91km north of Somali capital Mogadishu.
