MOGADISHU, Somalia – A roadside bomb explosion has ripped through an African Union armored personnel carrier in Somali capital Mogadishu.

The explosion targeted African Union mission known as AMISOM troops on board while traveling through Hiliwa district of Mogadishu, a witness said.

He says two police soldiers nearby the explosion scene were killed.

It is unclear the exact casualty inflicted upon AMISOM troops.

He says the AMISOM forces opened heavy gunfire to response to the bomb attack.

The African Union mission remains unavailable to comment on the attack.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for Sunday’s explosion.

But, such attacks are often carried out by Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab.

The group has been fighting for more than ten years to topple the weak-western backed government of Somalia.
