MOGADISHU, Somalia – A huge blaze has engulfed at a fuel depot in Somali capital, a plume of thick black smoke and flames billowing from Mogadishu

The inferno caused huge property loss as the fire empowered by raging winds destroyed large parts of the fuel depot near Somali foreign ministry headquarters in the capital of Mogadishu.

Mohamed Guedi, a witness says fire started at one petrol shop on Thursday, spreading into adjacent shops.

He says bangs and explosions caused by fuel tankers could be heard through Somali capital Mogadishu.

No deaths and injuries have been reported over the fire eruption.

Guedi says dozens of people had been struggling to put out the fire by pouring water and other available appliances.

The cause of the fire remains unclear but locals blamed an electrical fault.

There have been fears raised by local residents over the fire to spread into nearby residential areas in the capital of Somalia.

Somalia’s capital has a small fire brigade which must respond to numerous fires in the city, which is recovering from decades of war.
