Ethiopian forces clash with Al Shabaab

MOGADISHU, Somalia – Heavy fighting broke out between Ethiopian forces under African Union peacekeeping force and Al Shabaab in parts of Bakool region in southern Somalia.

The battle flared up when Al Shabaab fighters launched an ambush attack on a convoy of Ethiopian forces in the vicinity of Wajid district in the region.

Al-Shabaab claimed victory over the attack, saying its fighters inflicted casualties on the Ethiopia troops but did not confirm the number of the fatalities.

There is no word from Ethiopia and government officials about the fighting and the attack.

The situation is calm this morning, however, the government and Ethiopian troops were reported to be making movements around the town of Wajid following the attack.
