Somali Islamists detain 15 over US self-defense strike

MOGADISHU, Somalia –Somali Islamist group Al Shabaab has arrested scores of people, including some of its fighters, whom it says were collaborating United States, a day after US military carried out a self-defense air strike in west of Somali capital Mogadishu.

The operation was carried out in Awdhegle town, some 75km west of Mogadishu where US military killed four militants in drone strike after US and Somali forces came under attack.

Radio Shabelle quoting sources, reported that the group’s fighters detained 15 people, including some of its fighters accused of collaborating with United States.

It is unclear where the detainees were taken.

The group has claimed to have killed two generals and seven other soldiers following roadside bomb explosion in Dhanane area near Somali capital Mogadishu.

The Al Qaeda linked group also carried out similar attacks on hotels and popular areas in the capital, killing dozens for the past months.
