The attack took place near Baladxawo, a town close to Kenyan border town, after Al Shabaab fighters launched a surprise attack on army base manned by Jubaland forces.

Al Qaeda inspired group Al Shabaab claimed to have killed at least 5 Jubaland soldiers during the attack through its website.

The group says its fighters had also seized 4 AK-47s following Thursday’s ambush assault.

There was no immediate comment from Jubaland army forces over the claims.

The group has been waging insurgency for more than ten years.
