LONDON – United Kingdom’s Minister for Africa, Harriett Baldwin, has condemned Friday’s suicide attack on a popular hotel in Somali capital, Mogadishu, leaving 55 people dead.

Baldwin says he offered her condolences to the families of the victims.

I was deeply saddened to learn of the appalling attacks in Mogadishu on 9 November, which have killed 55 people and severely injured many others”, he said.

Baldwin said his thoughts are with the families of the victims, as well as the people and government of Somalia.

“I wish those wounded a rapid recovery, and pay tribute to the first responders who reacted to the attack”.

United Kingdom’s Minister for Africa pledged that his government would continue to help battle against terrorism in the region, and remains committed to supporting a prosperous and secure Somalia.

Friday’s explosions claimed by Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab.

The group, which once controlled much of the capital of Mogadishu in 2011, wants to topple the weak-western backed government of Somalia.
