Somalia: Somtel staffer shot dead in Mogadishu

MOGADISHU — Somtel Telecom staff member has been shot and killed by unknown gunmen on Tuesday, the latest in string of assassinations in Somali capital Mogadishu.

The victim, whose name has been released as Mohamud Abdi Madhin was gunned down by men armed with pistols near Hared mosque in the city’s biggest Bakara market.

Madhin, was one of the youth, who studied at the University of Mogadishu.

He was reportedly in charge of financial department for Somtel Telecom, his colleagues said.

The killers escaped from the crime scene.

It remains unclear why he was targeted.

“We are now preparing his burial”, hsi relatives said.

Last week, a 9-year-old school girl has died after being shot in the head in heart of Somali capital Mogadishu.

Deko left her life to gun fire opened by a government soldier while on board heading to home from her school in the capital, relatives said.

Following the fatal shooting of a nine-year-old pupil, Amnesty International has urged Somali government to launch an independent investigation and hold to account the officers behind the act of recklessness that took the life of a child.

Earlier this month, six people, including two school children were killed and six other school students injured in an Al-Shabaab suicide bomb attack at local government building in Somali capital Mogadishu.
