Roadside bomb explosion targeting an armored personnel carrier, has killed at least two Kenyan military soldiers on board in south of Somalia.

The explosion ripped through Kenyan military convoy while travelling near Gariley area in Gedo region, leaving two soldiers dead, a witness said.

He says four other soldiers were also injured in the blast.

“It is an IED blast targeted an armored vehicle carrying Kenyan military soldiers. Two of them were killed and 4 others injured”, he said.

The bomb attack was claimed by Al-Qaeda linked Al Shabaab group in Somalia.

The group says it has been responsible for landmine explosion targeted Kenyan military convoy, killing several soldiers in the attack.

There was no immediate comment from Kenyan military over the claims.

In 2011, Nairobi sent its troops into Somalia to thwart deadly border cross attacks and kidnappings allegedly carried out by Al Qaeda inspired group Al Shabaab.

Kenya has soldiers serving under African Union peacekeeping mission in Somalia to help the weak-western backed government battling against Al Shabaab.
