The Baledogle airfield is also where U.S. military experts train Somali forces and help them launch attacks on al-Shabab positions in south and central Somalia.

Earlier this year, Somalia, US especial forces killed 10 armed fighters belonging to Al Qaeda inspired group of Al Shabaab, battling the weak-western-backed government of Somalia, after joint military operation in the town.
