Somali Islamist group seizes near Kenyan border town

MOGADISHU, Somalia – Heavily armed Al Shabaab fighters have on Friday captured key area near Kenyan border town, along Somalia.

The group’s heavily armed fighters were seen moving into Gedweyne area in Dolow town, near Kenyan border, policeman, Nour Mohamed Hussein said.

Hussein says Somali army forces and Jubaland soldiers vacated from the area before the seizure of Al Shabaab.

He added that the Al Qaeda inspired group of Al Shabaab fighters entered into villages in Dollow town without fighting as soldiers withdrew over unknown reason.

In online statement by the group said that its fighters took control of key areas in the town.

The statement says the group’s fighters are on their way to expand into other parts in the town.

There was no comment from Somali military over the claims.
