MOGADISHU, Somalia – At least six government soldiers have been killed late on Wednesday in landmine explosion near Wanlaweyn town, about 90 km (55 miles) to the northwest of Somali capital Mogadishu.
The explosion has targeted a military vehicle carrying Somali soldiers, while escorting convoy of food and other logistics supplies to Ballidogle airport, a witness said.
Ballidogle is an airbase, where US especial soldiers offer trainings to Somali soldiers. It is situated 70 miles northwest of Mogadishu.
He says the explosion went off in area between Afgoye and Wanlaweyn towns, while Somali military forces, who were on board heading to Ballidogle.
Somali military officials were unavailable to reach on phone for comments on the bomb attack.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the explosion.
The attack comes hours after roadside bomb explosion injured at least 4 military soldiers at Elasha area, some 15km west of Somali capital Mogadishu.
