Somalia: Son stabs his father to death near Kismayo

MOGADISHU, Somalia – Blood splatters could be seen on the steps of Kalar’s home, after a man allegedly stabbed his father to death near the coastal town of Kismayo, about 528 km away from Somali capital Mogadishu.

The victim, whose name has been released as Abdullahi Sharif Kalar, a 53-year-old man, was stabbed to death by his son in Bulogadud area, some 30km away from Kismayo, police officer Mohamud Hared Osman said.

Osman says the killer had been arrested and was taken into police station for investigation.

The motive behind for the killing remains unknown.

Somalia’ Jubaland police accused the killer of being member of Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab group.

“He is in the hands of the police. He will be brought into justice”, he said.

Family on scene says the victim, who was suffering stab wounds to the neck and back had sucumbed to his injuries.

“We are now preparing his burial”, the relatives said.

The police could not answer whether a weapon was found on scene or the killer’s home after accusing him to be member of Al Shabaab.

But, the police said that blood splatters could be seen on the home’s front door.

The killer, whose name has not been released yet, did not say what compelled him to carry out such crime.

Further investigation over the incident was underway, according to police in Kismayo town.

The incident comes after regional police soldiers arrested a man, who stabbed his wife to death in central Somalia.
