Somali military says it has killed at least seven Al Shabaab fighters in gun battle near Jamame town, some 60km away from the coastal town of Kismayo.

The fighting took place in Arare area, some 7km from Jamame town, leaving seven armed militants dead, according to a lieutenant colonel, Abdi Ibrahim Ali.

Ibrahim says Tanzanian national fighting alongside Al Shabaab had also been killed in the fighting.

“We have killed a Tanzanian Jihadist and 6 other militants in gunfight near Jamame town”, he said.

He says Somali army forces backed by African Union troops had seized Arare area from Al Shabaab following hours of fighting.
