NUSOJ condemns arrest of Somali journalist

The National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) has condemned in the strongest terms possible the brief arrest of a Somali journalist Ahmed Khalif Ghedi.

Journalist Ghedi was arrested on Monday morning, 25 June, 2018 in Galkayo.

The Secretary General of National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ), Mohamed Ibrahim Mo’alum has condemned the arrest of the journalist.

“The arrest of Mukhtar Abdi Jama is an additional attack on media freedom to be added to the series of violations against journalists and media outlets”, Mo’alimu said.

He added that: “Journalists in are facing the difficult choice of continuing their journalism and putting themselves at risk.

Mr. Mo’alimu welcomed the immediate and unconditional release of journalist Ghedi.
