Services set for Chandler soldier killed in Somalia operation

A viewing of Staff Sgt. Alexander W. Conrad is 6-8 p.m. June 29 at St. Juan Diego Catholic Church, 3200 S. Cooper Road in Chandler.

The funeral is 10 a.m. June 30, also at St. Juan Diego Catholic Church.

A date for services and burial in Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia has not yet been set.

Sgt. Conrad, 26, died of injuries suffered June 8 during an operation in Somalia while supporting Operation Octave Shield. He had been assigned to 1st Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Four U.S. service members were injured during the attacks.

Sgt. Conrad graduated from Hamilton High School in Chandler in 2010. He was born in Mesa in 1992 and joined the U.S. Army on June 1, 2010.
