At least 15 Kenyan soldiers killed in bomb blast: Al Shabaab

MOGADISHU – Somali Islamist group has claimed to have killed at least 15 police soldiers on Sunday in bomb and gun attack in northeast town of Kenya.

The group says roadside bomb blast targeted police vehicle carrying soldiers travelling through Tabraj area in Wajir town, leaving 15 soldiers dead.

In online statement issued by the group reads that its fighters armed with RPGs and machine-guns ambushed the police soldiers following the explosion.

“We have killed at least 15 Kenyan police soldiers in bomb explosion followed by an ambush attack in Wajir town”, the group said.

Kenya’s police boss, Charles said Sunday’s explosion killed 8 police officers in the town, adding that the soldiers had repulsed the surprise assault.

Charles says police soldiers had already launched an operation to hunt down the attackers.

The Islamist group of Al Shabaab carried out similar attacks in Kenyan towns, leaving dozens of people, including soldiers dead.
