Al Shabaab claims suicide explosion in Somalia

MOGADISHU — Somali military officials say seven people were injured in a suicide car bomb explosion at a military base near Kismayo town.

The explosion went off near military base, killing at least 2 militants and injured seven other Somali soldiers, according Mohamed Harun, a military officer.

Harun says the soldiers suspected the car and then opened fire which forced it to detonate near the base.

The militant group al Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the attack through its website.

The group says it killed at least 50 Somali military soldiers in the suicide explosion.
