MOGADISHU, Somalia – The Federal Republic of Somalia’s President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has fired the country’s Supreme Court chairman Hassan Ibrahim Idle Suleiman, replacing Baashe Yusuf Ahmed as the new Chief Justice
In a statement by Villa Somalia, the president sacked Suleiman, who has been in the position since 2016.
The president says the move was taken in a bid to reform large-scale judicial reforms to serve Somali people.
He added that latest change of guard part of his initial campaign pledge to have a proper and functioning justice system that caters for the needs of the country’s citizens
The President Farmaajo called on the House of the People and Government to complete the Judicial Service Commission and to adapt to the Provisional Constitution and the Judicial Service Institution of the Judiciary to reform the judicial system of the country.
The weak-Western backed government has been battling Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab group, who still hold large swaths in south and central of Somalia.
