Qatar, Somalia to enhance relations

By gulf times -His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and the President of Somalia, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, on Monday discussed ways to enhance bilateral co-operation as well as developments on the Somali front, in addition to regional and international issues of common concern.

At the outset of the talks held at the Amiri Diwan, the Amir welcomed the Somali president, stressing that the meeting will help in boosting the existing ties between the two countries in all fields and that Qatar will continue to support Somalia as well as efforts of the president to overcome the different challenges and difficulties that he faces, wishing security and stability for his country.

The Somali president expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Amir for Qatar’s support to Somalia as well as its efforts and backing for the fraternal Somali people and providing relief and development aid on a regular basis, especially in the fields of health, education and infrastructure.

He also praised Qatar’s positive stance towards Somalia in international forums.

During the session, His Highness the Amir and the Somali president reviewed bilateral co-operation and means of boosting it in different fields, in addition to the political, security and economic developments in Somalia, and efforts of both countries in combating terrorism and extremism so as to enhance the unity and stability of Somalia.

After the talks, the Amir and the Somali president witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding for co-operation in the health sector.

A number of ministers attended the session and the signing ceremony. Members of the official delegation accompanying the Somali president also were present.

Upon his arrival at the Amiri Diwan, the Somali president was accorded an official reception ceremony.

The Amir also hosted a luncheon banquet at the Amiri Diwan in honour of the Somali President and the delegation accompanying him.

On Sunday Somali President Farmajo met HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani.

The meeting reviewed the bilateral relations and ways of supporting and developing them in addition to a number of issues of mutual interest.
