Al Shabaab senior officer surrenders to Somali forces

MOGADISHU – A senior commander of Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab militants has surrendered to government troops.

The commander, whose name has been identified as Adow Mo’alim Isak, has laid his arms to 60th brigade of Somali National Army forces, according army cehif Osma’il Khalif.

He was in charge of Lower, Middle, Bay, Bakol and Banadir region operations for the Al Shabaab group.

Osman told journalists that Adow had denounced the last year’s deadliest suicide bomb explosion Km4 juction in Mogadishu which left hundreds of people dead.

There was immediate response from Al Shabaab over the defection of Adow.
