MOGADISHU – At least five people have been killed in roadside explosion near Wanlaweyn town, some 90km west of Somalia’s capital Mogadishu.

Somalia’s southwest State of security minister Abdulkadir Abdirahman Baraf and Ahmed Abdi Farah, an MP in Hirshabelle regional parliament were among those killed in the explosion, police officer, Hussein Mohamed said.

Mohamed told AGGM that the officials were heading to Afgoye town, some 30km south of Mogadishu, after returning from Bailidogle airbase, where they met with SW state president Sharif Ahmed Sheikh Aden.

Somali-based group of Al Shabaab claimed the responsibility for Wednesday’s landmine explosion on its website, saying the bomb blast ripped through a vehicle carrying senior officials from the states of SW and Hirshabelle.
